Size the light to the architecture
Confirm ceiling height and circulation first, then scale the fixture to the table, island, or room. These are design starting points—not product-specific installation instructions.
Ceiling & clearance first
Measuring for
30–36 in. above surface
Start near one-half to two-thirds of the table width and keep the fixture comfortably inside each edge.
For an extra-long table, a linear fixture or a balanced pair often reads better than one oversized round chandelier.
30–36 in. above counter
Keep a linear fixture about 6–12 inches inside each end. For multiple pendants, calculate even spacing from the actual shade diameter.
Check the range hood, cabinet doors, seating positions, and primary sightlines before finalizing the drop.
Two-story volume
Use room length plus width only as a first scale check. Preserve at least 7 feet of walk-path headroom, then set the visual center from both floors and major windows.
Avoid one universal floor-height rule for every foyer; the architecture and fixture height determine the final suspension.
Project condition
Confirm that the exact fixture is slope-rated and that its canopy, chain, downrod, or cord can level correctly. Set the final drop only after the ceiling angle and overall fixture height are known.
Product compatibility and structural support take priority.
High-ceiling note. The familiar “add roughly 3 inches of height per extra ceiling foot” rule can help with a simple dining-room check, but it should not replace a sightline study in 10–12 foot rooms, two-story spaces, or vaulted interiors.
Measuring for
Hang pendant shades about 30–36 inches above the countertop. For multiples, begin around 24–30 inches center to center and distribute the remaining space evenly.
Position the bottom of the pendant about 30–36 inches above the table. Size the fixture to the tabletop and keep conversation sightlines clear.
A shade bottom around 18–24 inches above the nightstand is a practical starting point. Confirm reach, reading height, and clearance before the electrical box is finalized.
Measuring for
Low-profile fixtures preserve overhead space near doors and circulation paths. Maintain at least 7 feet from the finished floor to the fixture’s lowest point in walk-through areas.
Add room length and width in feet, then use that total in inches as an approximate fixture diameter. Treat the result as a proportion check, not a product-specific requirement.
Keep the fixture comfortably within the hallway width and clear of door swings. For repeated fixtures, use even spacing and adjust around openings and architectural features.
Measuring for
Mount the center of a general wall sconce roughly 60–72 inches above the finished floor, then adjust for ceiling height, doors, artwork, and eye level.
For a fixture above the mirror, 75–80 inches from the floor is a useful starting range. Confirm the mirror height, user eye level, fixture depth, and damp-location rating.
Place the light source near seated eye level and within comfortable reach. Check shade projection, headboard height, switch access, and glare before installation.
Measuring for
Choose a picture-light shade approximately one-half the width of the frame or artwork below. Center it carefully so the illumination reads evenly.
Aim the light toward the artwork at roughly a 30-degree angle, then fine-tune it to reduce glare and create even coverage across the surface.

Submit a return request for an eligible unused, uninstalled, non-custom product within 30 calendar days after delivery. Do not ship the product until the return is authorized; the authorization will state the ship-by deadline.
Customized, made-to-order, installed, used, altered, and final-sale products are generally not eligible for return unless they arrive damaged, are incorrect, have a verified covered defect, or applicable law requires otherwise.
For a customer-choice return, the customer is responsible for return shipping. Fullstarlighting may deduct the documented actual outbound shipping cost originally incurred to deliver the order. No restocking fee is charged on an approved eligible return.
If an item or component arrives damaged, contact us promptly and include your order number and photographs of the product, packaging, shipping label, and visible issue. Keep all original packaging until our team completes its review.
